China’s e-commerce JD.ID announce its first international unmanned store located in PIK Avenue shopping mall, Jakarta Indonesia.
The 270 square meter smart store dubbed as ‘X-Mart’, is the AI-powered and cashier-less store to make unique convenient technological experience to the customers.
Customers are encouraged to pick up the item they want and check out of the store without needing to wait for lines or payments.
The store employs radio frequency identification – RFID technology which identify the items in buying carts and charge the customers automatically.
X-Mart also uses face recognition technology and in-store cameras to identifiy customer and monitor customers movement. The store will use the data to optimize the inventory and making recommendation in the future.
The JD.ID move indicates the importance of Indonesia and southeast Asia market. This region has been the hotbed of international vc investment recently.
JD.ID launched the first X-Mart in Beijing last year, and now it has operated 20 such facilities accross China.
