Approximately 10,800 taxis operating in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will be installed with free WiFi. This plan was agreed upon by the Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) with telecommunications firm on the sidelines of the largest technology exhibition event in the United Arab Emirates, GITEX 2018.
“We are pleased to sign this agreement with RTA to provide smart services and Wi-Fi technology onboard taxis in Dubai. This initiative is an important step in our efforts to support the UAE Government’s Vision 2021 for providing accessible modern telecommunication services,” said CEO of EITC Osman Sultan, as quoted by Arabian Business.
According to Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, Dubai targets all taxis operated by six taxi companies to be installed with WiFi devices within a year of the agreement being signed.
Dubai is ambitious to become a leading city that implements high technology such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, and automation.
Dubai Government has been targeting to transport the transport to as much as 25 percent of public transport means by 2030.
