The GITEX technology exhibition, which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week, featured driverless taxi and autonomous flying cars.
At GITEX, which opened on Sunday, Dubai’s transportation authorities plan to showcase the driverless taxi which will be the first to operate in the Arab region.
As reported by Arabian Business, the Director General and Chair Road and Transportation Authority Mattar Al Tayer said that GITEX would witness the launch of several smart services and initiatives including the implementation of an autonomous taxi test run.
As for United Arab Emirates telecommunications operator Etisalat, the Gitex exhibition will be the first place to launch the 5G network and announced their investment in several future technologies including flying cars.
At the GITEX exhibition this time, Etisalat focuses on the theme ‘Driving the digital future to empower societies’. They will showcase futuristic technology solutions and services.
“Our theme this year will provide information on technology, network, services, and mobility. This will play a key role in building the next generation of smart innovations and change to open doors to the future. of urbanism,” said Saleh Abdullah Al Abdooli, chief executive officer, Etisalat Group told Khaleej Times in an interview.
Etisalat himself, Abdooli explained, has evolved into an ICT service provider by building an ecosystem that supports future solutions in the field of AI and robotics.
“As a company, our vision ‘Driving the digital future to empower societies is focused on making this digital future reality by facilitating innovation, creativity and bringing technologies of the future to our customers across our markets,” Abdooli continued.
According to Abdooli, UAE is now leading the global ICT competitive index because of its ongoing development in adopting digital strategies in various projects and initiatives.
The latest international report from the FTTH Council said UAE has maintained its position as a global leader in FTTH by providing fiber-to-home (FTTH) coverage to 94.3 percent of homes across the UAE.
