Arsianews, Jakarta – Dorna Sport CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta introduced Indonesia as host of 2021 MotoGP in a press conference on the sidelines of the 2019 Qatar MotoGP free practice session, last week. Dorna Sports is the commercial rights holder of MotoGP.
Indonesia was previously selected to hold the MotoGP 2021. Dorna has signed a contract with the Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (IDTC) in Madrid, Spain on January 28, 2019. The signing was carried out by Ezpeleta and Abdulbar M. Mansoer, CEO of ITDC, witnessed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Spain, Hermono.
Indonesia will hold the MotoGP in Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK), Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which will be the name of the circuit. The race will be carried out with the concept of street circuits. Ezpeleta promises MotoGP races in Indonesia will be different.
“Since 1997 in Sentul, we have always opened the possibility of holding MotoGP in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the largest motorcycle countries in the world. We know motorbike and motorcycle racing is very important in Indonesia, “Ezpeleta said, as reported by the official MotoGP page.
“And since then we have tried various possibilities and since last year we worked with ITDC and finally we were able to announce certainty in 2021,” he added.
“Indonesia’s Grand Prix (GP) will be something different. “It’s very special and happy with the possibility and we think this is an important step for MotoGP in the future,” he concluded.
