Arsianews, Jakarta – Indonesia carries a variety of potential franchise products to be marketed at the World Franchise Exhibition 2019. Indonesia has the honor of being the Guest of Honor at the event which will be held at the Dhahran International Exhibition Center, Al Khobar City, Saudi Arabia on April 27-29 2019.

“We will continue to encourage Saudi businessmen to invest in various fields, and make Indonesia an example of one of the most successful countries to attract foreign investment,” said the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Saudi Arabia and the OIC, Agus Maftuh Abegebriel at Riyadh, through a press release.

The exhibition was organized by the General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises of Saudi Arabia and the Eastern Provincial Government under the patron of Prince Ahmed Bin Fahd Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Province.

According to Maftuh, the 144-square-meter Indonesian Pavilion will present Indonesian companies from various sectors offering Indonesian franchise brands to Saudi Arabia, including food and beverage, clothing, etc.

By participating in this exhibition, it is expected that more Indonesian franchise brands will be marketed in Saudi Arabia. Currently there are many brands of Indonesian products that are quite successful in Saudi Arabia, including Indomie, J-Co, ABC, and Sasa.

“Especially for franchises, Indonesia has a lot of experience in this sector. For this reason, as Ambassador, I hope that Indonesian franchisees can take advantage of this good opportunity. This is part of a collective effort to intensify economic diplomacy as directed by President Jokowi, “he said.

Indonesia was the guest of honor of this year’s World Franchise Exhibition 2019 for the efforts of the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh. The 2019 World Franchise Exhibition exhibition itself will be participated in by a large number of exhibitors from local and international brands, namely 150 companies and 600 brands.

It is expected that there will be 100,000 visitors from various regions of Saudi Arabia and the surrounding Gulf countries. The committee also estimates that there will be at least 1,000 agreements (MoUs) signed.

According to Maftuh, quoting some Saudi economic observers, this exhibition is very important considering this is in line with the aspirations and direction of Vision 2030, which was designed by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Vision 2030 was designed in order to support the Saudi national economy, the sustainable development of commercial companies, expand and franchise cooperation and create large employment opportunities.

Maftuh said that the appointment of Indonesia as a guest of honor reflected the closeness of the relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia which entered the bilateral golden period especially after King Salman’s visit to Indonesia in March 2017.

“Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are currently in the golden age, where Indonesia has a special place in the eyes of the government and the people of Saudi Arabia,” he said.

According to him, Indonesia has just become the Guest of Honor Cultural Festival Janadriyah which is the biggest cultural diplomacy in the last 68 years.

The Janadriyah Festival is the largest cultural and heritage festival in the Middle East. Indonesia was appointed by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz as the Guest of Honor at the Festival. More than 10 million visitors attended the 33rd Janadriyah Festival for 21 days on December 20, 2018 – January 9, 2019.

The 2,500 square meter Indonesian Pavilion displays a variety of arts and cultures from various provinces in Indonesia. Many observers consider Indonesia’s involvement in this prestigious forum as the 21st century’s biggest cultural diplomacy.

“Now Indonesia is again appointed as an Honorary Guest at an international franchise exhibition. This is very proud, “said Ambassador Maftuh, who is also the teaching staff of Sunan Kalijaga UIN Yogyakarta.

Indonesia’s participation in the World Franchise Exhibition 2019 is an effort of the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh to boost promotion in the economic sector, following cultural promotion efforts that have been carried out through the Janadriyah Festival. Promotions in the economic sector, especially in the fields of trade, investment and tourism are crucial for Indonesia’s economic growth through the entry of foreign exchange.

Based on data from the Ministry of Commerce, the value of bilateral trade between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in 2018 reached US $ 6.1 billion, an increase of 34.94% compared to 2017. From this figure, Indonesia still experienced a deficit of US $ 1.7 billion due to the large amount of oil imports earth from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, still referring to the Ministry of Trade’s data, the trend of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to Saudi Arabia still recorded a value of minus 8.98% throughout 2013-2017.
