ArsiaNews , President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) explained that the plan to move the national capital had been conceived for a long time, even since the era of the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno.
“As a large nation that has been independent for 74 years, Indonesia has never determined and designed its own capital,” President Jokowi said at a press conference regarding the location of the capital’s move, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (8/26) afternoon.
Regarding the emergence of many questions why should move, President Jokowi gave a number of reasons for the need to move the country’s capital.
First, according to the President, the burden of Jakarta is now too heavy as the center of government, business center, financial center, trade center, and service center, as well as the largest airport and airport in Indonesia.
Secondly, the burdensome burden of the island of Java with a population of 150 million or 54 percent of the total population of Indonesia and 58 percent of Indonesia’s economic GDP is in Java, and Java as a source of food security.
“This burden will be heavier if the capital city of the government stays in Java,” President Jokowi said. ’
The President emphasized that we cannot continue to allow the burdens of Jakarta and the burdens of the island of Java to become heavier in terms of population density, traffic congestion which is already severe, and air and water pollution which we must immediately deal with.
“This is not the fault of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, no, but mainly because of the huge burden placed on the Indonesian economy for Java and Jakarta. The economic gap between Java and outside Java continues to increase, although since 2001 regional autonomy has been carried out, “explained the Head of State.
For this reason, after conducting in-depth studies, which have intensified their studies in the past three years, according to the President, the conclusion is that the most ideal location of the new capital city is in the North Penajam Paser Regency and partly in the Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province.
The President stressed, the construction of the new capital city is not the only government effort to reduce the disparity of Java and outside Java. Because besides that the government will also develop industrialization outside Java based on the downstreaming of natural resources.
The President also ensured that Jakarta will remain a development priority and continue to be developed as a business city, financial city, trade center, and regional and global service center. And the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to conduct urban regeneration, which is budgeted at Rp571 trillion, will continue to be carried out and the discussion will be at the technical level and ready to be executed.
When announcing the location of the transfer of the capital of the country, President Jokowi was accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of PPN / Bappenas Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of ATR / Head of BPN Sofyan Jalil, Minister of Domestic Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of LHK Siti Nurbaya, Governor Kaltim Isran Noor, Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan.
