President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the development of the Labuan Bajo superpremium destination will begin to be addressed early this year and there are at least 5 (five) zones or areas that need to be laid out. This was revealed by President Jokowi when chairing a Limited Meeting (ratas) on the Development of the Labuan Bajo Tourism Destination at Plataran Komodo Resort, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), Monday (20/1).
“The first is related to the arrangement of the region. We really want that the tourist market segment that is present here is that spending is greater than most tourists. And therefore, we really need to do integration, both related to neatness, cleanliness, and comfort, safety for tourists, “said the President, starting the direction.
Furthermore, the President said that although there are a number of star-rated hotels with various existing facilities, he also saw that more hotels were needed for Labuan Bajo.
“There are five zones that we must arrange, namely the first in Bukit Pramuka, then the second in Kampung Air, third in the container port and passenger dock, and then the fourth in the marina area, the fifth in the Ujung Kampung zone,” said the President.
The Head of State said that the five zones will become an uninterrupted public space that presents a beautiful landscaping and a generator of development and community activity centers in Labuan Bajo.
“The second is related to infrastructure. I hope that this year the runway and terminal will start soon, “the President said while confirming this to the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi. If everything is ready, the President continued, it is hoped that this airport will get more traffic, more traffic because in terms of management it has the capability and network to bring tourists to Labuan Bajo.
In connection with the preparation of human resources, the Head of State wants the local community to enjoy and be part of the development carried out. “Therefore, the local human resources must quickly improve their expertise, competence, both in terms of skills that are tailored to the needs in the tourism industry that we want to do,” said the President.
The matter of micro businesses, small businesses, medium businesses that are here, the President asked not to be left. He hopes that there will also be a creative hub that will work on local products, both in terms of packaging / design, design, price, and others. “We hope that later weaving, coffee, handicrafts, special foods can really grow. And along with that also local cultural attractions, regional art must also be more alive and revive the area in Labuan Bajo, “said the President.
