Jakarta: A street in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been named in honor of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
President Joko Widodo Street was inaugurated by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony for President Joko Widodo Street was also attended by a number of Indonesian and UAE officials, including Indonesian Ambassador to Indonesia Husin Bagis.
“Indonesian Ambassador Husin Bagis hopes the newly inaugurated President Joko Widodo Street in Abu Dhabi can strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and UAE,” stated the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi in a written statement issued on Tuesday.
President Joko Widodo Street is located between Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) and Embassy Area. It also connects Rabdan Street and Tunb Al Kubra Street. It wa previously called Al Ma’arid Street.
Last year, coinciding with Saudi Arabia’s 89th National Daya, the UAE government named one of the main streets in Abu Dhabi after Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
